The Best Tourist Activities in Uganda

There are no excuses for ever complaining of boredom in Uganda. Whether you are there on a volunteering trip or a holiday, there is so much to do!

Here are just a few things you could do:

  1. Nile Perch

I have a passion for fishing and had booked a day fishing for the famous Nile Perch. However, due to complications whilst booking the tour, I went rafting on the Nile instead. For some reason, I thought that we would be having a nice ‘relaxed’ tour down the Nile, never have I been so wrong! After turning the corner for the first rapid, we all soon realised that we may have underestimated the River Nile. Overall, we fell out of our raft five times (out of eight rapids), but that honestly did not dampen our spirits. If you like a true challenge and adventure, whilst being in a truly beautiful area, then rafting down the Nile is certainly one way you can achieve that. (Kabiza Wilderness Safaris)

  1. Forrest treks

Uganda possesses half the Worlds population of Gorillas (around 400), and with the constant threat of poaching and deforestation, we do not know how long these animals will be around. Trekking into the forests to see these beautiful creatures is surely worth doing if the opportunity arises. (www.bwindiforestnationalpark.com/gorilla-trekking)

  1. Safari tours and adventure activities

Uganda has one of the most diverse populations of birds in the World (over 1,000 species). This is one of the reasons why the safaris in Uganda are so popular. Not only this, but Uganda has the all of the big five game animals (Lion, elephant, Cape buffalo, African leopard, and rhinoceros). Although I did not have enough time to do a safari, it is certainly on my list for the next time that I visit.

Other adventure tours included; quad biking, horse back riding, Mountain biking and bungee jumping. (There are so many companies to go through, you should not have a problem, especially near Jinja)

  1. City excursions

If you would prefer to venture into the bustling city and discover Kampala, then the boda boda tour is the way to go. A boda boda is an east African term for motorbike. The tour will take you throughout Kampala; taking you inside the second biggest mosque in Africa, to local markets and restaurants, to a banana beer manufacturing plant and to Idi Amin’s torture chambers. The local guides certainly helped on this tour, making it a great educational tool for learning more about the diverse culture of Uganda.
